Film Review: 500 Days of Summer

Like with Ashton Kutcher, I am a huge fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and was pleasantly surprised when I realized he was in this film. However, unlike with No Strings Attached, I couldn’t even finish this film, I was so bored. The plot is that Gordon-Levitt is in love with a girl named Summer, played by Zoe Deschanel. Although their relationship ends as the film begins, the plot bounces around the various days of life with Summer. It was a cute concept, but I was just bored.

However, there were some great lines in the film. My favorite:

Summer: You don’t believe a woman can be free and independent?

Guy: Holy shit. You’re a dude. She’s a dude.

  1. Hmm. I just read Americanah and got bored for the same reason – bouncing around the life and loves of the main characters but already knowing how it all ends… Is this some kind of new fashion in literature and serious films??
